What it was

Frank Lloyd Wright's conceptual mixed-use skyscraper for Chicago, also known as the Mile-High Illinois.

Wright unveiled the tower at a press conference with an eight-foot drawing, a proposed steel tripod structure, atomic-powered elevators, parking for thousands of cars and helicopter facilities. It was a serious public design statement without a client, site commitment or construction budget.
